Until 2019 I was a Senior Economist at Goldman Sachs. Before that I was Assistant professor at the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics (SITE) at the Stockholm School of Economics.

My main research fields are in political economics and development, with a particular focus on empirics. I have a special interest in the Middle East in general and Turkey in particular. My past work as an academic has been mentioned in Bloomberg, The Economist, Financial Times, Science Magazine, and the Harvard Business Review among others. I blog on topics related to institutional development, and intermittently provide related commentary in newspapers and magazines.
